Cottam Brush are delighted to have signed up to be Corporate Members of SAFC Foundation of Light. Foundation of Light is the official charity of Sunderland Football Club, but is financially and structurally independent of the Club meaning they fundraise 95% of their costs. It is only through the support of organisations like Cottam Brush that they are able to continue to deliver programmes throughout Sunderland, South Tyneside and Durham to 42,000 young people and families every year.
The Foundation of Light offer nearly 40 different programmes to participants of all ages and backgrounds, using the power of football and Sunderland Football Club to engage a wide variety of people. Programme areas include Family Learning, Disability Sports Coaching, Employability, Healthy and Positive lifestyles, Bullying, Racism, Substance Misuse and a range of other community issues. The team includes more than 100 professional teachers, health workers, sports coaches, family learning officers, youth workers and support staff meaning they are one of the leading community programmes in the Premier League.
Alan Crook, Manufacturing Director, said “The Foundation of Light has a very positive impact in our local area, and that is important to us. The range of opportunities they provide for local people is amazing, particularly when you realise they raise the majority of their funds themselves. We look forward to getting involved with foundation events.”
There are a number of ways for businesses, employees and individuals to get involved to help support the work of the foundation in local communities. There are a range of events throughout the year including a Race Day at Sedgefield Racecourse in March, a Golf Day and an annual Fashion Show. There are also a number of ‘Challenge Yourself’ events including a 380 mile Dublin to Sunderland cycle ride, the Lambton 10k and 3k run. Spaces are also available to represent the Foundation at the Great North Run. For more information on SAFC Foundation of Light, go to www.foundationoflight.co.uk
